Did you know that the Torremanzanas bell tower houses the oldest clock in the Valencia Region that still actually works? The Monumental Clock at the Church of Santa Ana, built prior to the 18th century, is currently the only one of its kind. We will pay a visit to the church where they will explain how it works.
Passing through the old part of town, we will arrive at the Casa Alta. This construction was originally a Moorish Almohad dynasty tower, built in the 12th and 13th centuries at the highest point of the town. The tower gave its name to the village and remains its most emblematic building.
We will go inside to the History & Ethnology Museum, and learn a bit more about the heritage and traditions of Torremanzanas.
We will begin with a visit to the Church of Santa Ana to see the Monumental Clock in the bell tower. A stroll through the narrow streets will then lead us to the Casa Alta, where will go into the Torremanzanas History & Ethnology Museum.
Following the track we will reach the Foia de Cortés, a large fortified manor house that was probably originally a Moorish estate, but which has been rebuilt over the centuries.
We will enjoy an early lunch at the Restaurante where we will taste some local cuisine: meats, bread, pericana and the excellent Almàssera de La Torre olive oil, all prepared in the traditional manner.
We will end the day with a visit to the oil press where we will learn a little more about the regional olive varieties and their characteristics.
