On the borders of the La Canyada region, now the district of Villena, a spectacular discovery took place in 1963, known as the Treasure of Villena. This Bronze Age collection (dating from around 1500 BC) is the most significant of its kind in Spain and the second most valued in Europe. It consists of 59 pieces of gold, siver, iron and amber, weighing almost 10kg, found in the town of Villena. However, if the discovery itself was spectacular, no less interesting are the stories that surround this event: strange coincidences, secrets, crimes and mysteries that all occurred in the short distance between the Caseta del Forner and the Ravine with the same name.  

If this event was remarkable, the history of the Fondillones is equally interesting. Fondillón is a strong sweet wine, with a unique character due to the climate and the local Monastrell grape variety. It became a favourite among monarchs throughout Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is made using a special process involving long ageing (as much as 50 years or more) in the barrel.

We will start by visiting some of the oldest houses and estates in La Canyada and get to know more of their history over the years.

Passing through centuries-old olive groves, we will reach the Casa del Fornes where the history of secrets, crimes and legends surrounding the Discovery of the Treasure of Villena all began.

We will then go on to the Bodega Centenaria del Pinaret, which dates from the 19th century, and learn how they still make wine in the traditional way.

We will also visit one of the oldest wineries in La Canyada and see the barrels containing the famous Fondillón wines, which we will have the opportunity to taste.  

During breakfast we will enjoy an olive oil tasting, with the 5 oils currently sold by OCTOBRIS BIO, along with wines from the Celler El Pinaret and typical Canyada meats and sausages with delicious fresh bread.
